How to I get my digital voice recorder to record in MP3 format?

I have an Olympus Digital Voice Recorder WS-500M. The manual said that it is capable of recording in both MP3 and WMA. So far I've only been able to record on WMA which is bad because I'm working on a Mac. Does anyone know how to do this?
