In a pickle about acne and the pill?

It seems that I have acne caused by hormones. i never had much of a problem during teenage hood but from 20 until now (23) i have had problems with acne. i was on a pill and stopped it & thats when the acne started. i went back on a pill that didnt help then found yasmin but it was too expensive so went back to the first pill. i then stopped taking it and havent taken the pill for nearly a year now. my acne has been controlled a little bit by using proactive however i had a huge break between 'that time of the month' and theyve only recently began up again. the acne of course has gotten worse. i am wondering whether anybody knows if the acne will calm down once i get back to being regular? or should i go back on the pill? i did get more headaches on the pill but suffer anyway. and the acne annoys me so much. not only does it look bad but proactive doesnt work completely and its sore and hurts alot. its only in patches on my cheeks but very painful and constant.
